As much as fans were hoping for a glorious Manchester United comeback, they have been left extremely disappointed so far and it seems far unlikely at this point for them to regain any of their former fire.
It is Manchester United’s worst start to a season for 30 years.
The club are 12th in the Premier League, with nine points from eight games. They have not won away from Old Trafford in domestic competition since February and have failed to score more than one goal in any game since the 4-0 opening-day hammering of Chelsea.
Things seem to be unravelling for Solskjaer despite his summer signing bedding in well. Moving into the international break, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is required to put on a brave face for the next match against rivals Liverpool although they aren’t expected to win. The Red Devils are going through a huge crisis and speculation is going around that they may even lose their star player, Paul Pogba.
Pogba, central midfielder for Man Utd, was looking to make a move back in the summer transfer window but the Red Devils weren’t prepared to give him up and refused to have him transferred. Now for the upcoming transfer window in January, Juventus are preparing for a new bid for Pogba to bring him to Serie A and are willing to offer Mario Mandzukic and Emre Can to Manchester United as part of the deal.
Sources close to the situation told B/R that Juve have been open to a move for Pogba ever since being alerted to his discontent in Manchester earlier in the season, and they are merely turning up the heat as they receive messages that he could become attainable in this window.
Could Pogba be a beneficial asset to Juve? Certainly. They too have big plans to improve on the last term, particularly after being knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage. Juve insiders also believe the club wants to add a player with improved strength, as well as a big character inside the dressing room.
On top of this, there is a commercial element that comes with Pogba. His jersey is among the highest-selling in world football, and as a poster boy he would bring an extra dimension to the club’s marketing team that very few players can top
United’s resolve will be tested once again in January as Pogba is reportedly still keen on a move away. According to Tuttosport, Juventus have retained their interest and are ready to offload Mandzukic and Can in return for Pogba.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was also interested in signing Pogba, but after Los Blancos splashed the cash on Eden Hazard, they simply couldn’t meet United’s demands.
This seems to be a great opportunity for the World Cup winner to prove his potential. The midfielder has been afforded some excuses for his poor start to the season with his future hanging over him at the start of the new campaign and then his injury which meant he has not been reaching his full potential.
He claims the “club is going in reverse” and does not wish to be made into a scapegoat.
Pogba is currently sidelined with an ankle injury and is recovering in Dubai during the international break. Only time will tell whether Manchester United are finally ready to let go of their world-class talent.
