AS Roma v Salzburg- UEL Betting Preview

AS Roma Summary

Roma have won all five of their competitive home matches in 2023 ’to-nil’ which bodes extremely well for knockout games, so fair to say their confidence is extremely high of progressing.

The league form has been inconsistent, but they sit in a respectable third spot in Serie A, but a long way off runaway leaders Napoli.

Jose Mourinho felt that his side did not deserve the 1-0 loss in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League clash at Salzburg.

The late winner for the Austrians has put the pressure on Roma and they need to win by two goals to avoid penalties.

Looking at team news, Jose Mourhino has two important doubts with both Abraham, and Dybala not 100%. The English striker has a facial injury and was forced off with 15 minutes left in their weekend 1-0 win.

Dybala would be a big loss for the second leg, he has a thigh injury and the club will want him to be available, so give him every chance to pass fit in time to face the Austrians.

Salzburg Summary

The Austrians snatched a late win the in first leg and are travelling to Rome in good spirits and well-motivated to knock Roma and Jose Mourhino out of the UEFA Europa League.

Thanks to Nicolás Capaldo’s 88th-minute header in the home leg, that win makes up a third of a three-game winning run in all competitions.

Salzburg are top of the pile in the domestic league and with credible form in Champions league too. The visitors have lost just twice on the road this season, winning 13 and drawing 2 games which includes two 1-1 draws against Chelsea and Dinamo Zagreb. Their last trip to Italy however ended badly with a 4-0 loss at Milan in November.

Team news does not make for positive reading for the away team here. Salzburg have several players out including Guindo, Okoh, Omoregie and Tijani, limiting the managers options to rotate and freshen up his team.

There is also a doubt with Onguene and Kameri, though both have chances to make the squad.

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first. Roma are the favourites and with Jose Mourinho perceived as an expert in UEFA tournament football, they will have their backers @ 1.68. Salzburg are big underdogs @ 5.25, while the draw is @ 3.90.

Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. Again Roma are rather fancied by punters, giving away a -0.75 start @ 1.88. It may not be a pushover, backers will need the Italians to win by two goals in the 90 minutes for a full win here. Salzburg have won 12 of their 18 UEFA competition ties after winning the home first leg, including the last three. It is hard to see them winning in Rome, but a draw or narrow defeat is more realistic, and so punters could be attracted to take the +0.75 @ 1.99, especially if Dybala and Tammy Abraham misses out.

Looking at The Under/Over goal betting last of all where the line is set at 2.25. Over is @ 1.86 while the more tempting bet has to be the Under is @ 1.97. Roma winning 1-0 or 2-0 are probable correct scores, they have a manager who knows how to shut out games once ahead.
