The 2020/21 season for football clubs around the world, let alone just in Italy, was tough financially.
Of course, it was the first campaign that had been impacted entirely by the pandemic, however it does seem that the latest data suggests that there were three Serie A clubs who were able to perform rather well when it came down to the latest revenue rankings.
Deloitte’s Football Money League report for 2022 had analysed the data from the 20/21 season and ranked Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan within the top 20 clubs.

When taking a look at the rankings in detail, it is perhaps unsurprising to see that the Italian clubs do not appear near the top. In fact, Juventus are the highest-ranked, although they only appear in ninth.
According to the report, the Bianconeri managed to generate €433.5 million in revenue, although it is important to remember that this year’s performances and efforts on the pitch are not taken into account. Inter Milan came in 14th in the review, as they had managed to generate €330.9 million ($364m) in revenue in 2020/21, although this is going to be impacted due to the financial issues they had last season, which led to them seeking foreign investment.
It also led to players such as Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi leaving for big transfer fees, whilst Christian Eriksen had to leave because of his health condition.
AC Milan returned to the top-20 teams as they ranked 19th in the Deloitte Football Money League 2022 report, with it found that the Rossoneri managed to generate €216.3 million ($238m) in revenue.
The club has been rather rigorous in regard to its finances in recent years, and whilst they lost key players including Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Çalhanoğlu on frees – as well as potentially Franck Kessie this summer – they appear to have been rewarded for it as they continue to challenge in the Serie A title race.
