Since Juventus’ decline, the Milan clubs have been resurrected over the last few seasons. AC Milan and Inter have risen to prominence, and they are fighting for the Serie A title in the same way they did in the glorious past. Every game, every point is important for Inter, otherwise, it’s advantage AC Milan.

Sassuolo on the other hand would look to stop Inter in their tracks.

Last time out, Sassuolo were pushed to a 2-2 draw at home by Roma, but a point apiece was certainly a fair result.

Inter Milan in their last Serie A outing, would have expected a difficult trip to Napoli, and that’s exactly what they got.

Napoli took the lead in the seventh minute thanks to an Insigne penalty, but Dzeko equalized for the visitors early in the second half, and the game ended 1-1.

That draw allowed AC Milan to reclaim first place in Serie A, and now Inter Milan must win their home game against Sassuolo, come this Sunday if they want to go to the top of the table!

History:

Inter and Sassuolo have shared the pitch 17 times. Inter slightly edge Sassuolo as they have won 8 times compared to Sassuolo’s  7.

The sides shared the spoils on a couple of occasions.

The contest between these two sides is evenly matched as history suggests, however in the last 5 games that these two sides have met, Inter has blown away Sassuolo as they won 4 times and drew once.

Form:

In the last 5 matches, Inter has emerged victorious on 2 occasions, while suffering 2 defeats and 2 draws.

Their latest encounter came in the Champions League against Liverpool where they lost 2-0.

Sassuolo on the other hand has won only once in their last 5 matches. they drew twice and lost twice in the other 4 results.

Trivia:

Sassuolo has won seven of their 17 Serie A meetings against Inter (D2 L8), only against Genoa and Sampdoria (eight each) have they won more top-flight matches.

Inter are unbeaten in their past six Serie A encounters against Sassuolo (W6 D2), winning the last three; they have never won four league games in a row against the Neroverdi.

Inter could fail to win three Serie A matches in a row for the first time since January 2020 after losing to AC Milan and drawing at Napoli (three draws under Antonio Conte)

Prediction

Though Inter has been on the wrong side of results in the last few matches, the odds are still with them as they host Sassuolo on Sunday.

Sassuolo who have garnered only 30 points in the 25 games they have played so far, look no match for Inter.

They would be heading to San Siro with only hope and optimism in their hearts, as on paper they are no match against Inter

By all logic, Inter should be winning this one comfortably, and regaining their spot at the top of the table!
