Milan had Spezia on the backfoot as they could only muster 38.6% possession of the ball. In the first half, that is 16–30 minutes, they had the lowest possession of the ball with a mere 14%. However, they scored a goal before the hour mark through loanee Daniel Maldini, who drew them level. From 76 to 90 minutes, Spezia fought tooth and nail to avoid getting a goal, but they were bullied and steamrolled by Milan.
